2018 at Walker Metalsmiths

As we near the end of 2018 here at Walkers our hearts are full of gratitude for our customers and our welcoming community. This year has been full of changes and growth for Walker Metalsmiths from new jewelry and new buildings to new faces.

We moved to our new showroom location at 4 S Main Street in April after extensive renovations. Our local community came out in droves to welcome us to our new building.

Our Walker Metalsmiths photo will be very different this year with many new faces.  Some of those new faces have included familiar faces like craftsmen Jenn who has returned part time after several years working in Rochester. She's now our resident Repair Specialist and joins us 2 days a week to restore our customer's family heirlooms and favorite jewelry pieces. We've also been joined by our new salesperson, Sydney, who has a background in art and passion for creativity.

Our longtime salesperson of 26 years, Susette, retired in June to spend more time with her grandchildren.  She still comes in occasionally to keep us on our toes and help train the new sales people.  Chris has also left us to put all of his energy into his new business.  Some of you may have seen him around the showroom in December as he stopped in to help us on busy weekends. While we miss him here, we're happy that his new business is taking off!  Our craftsman Emily moved back to her home state to be closer to family.  We were sad to see her go, but we appreciate the years she shared with us.

While there are several comings and goings there are still many familiar faces around the shop. In fact, we currently have the most craftsmen ever at Walker Metalsmiths at one time! Stephen Walker celebrated 50 years of Celtic Art in September with our Local Traditions event.  Lyndsay B is celebrating 12 years at Walker Metalsmiths as a designer and senior craftsman.  Lindsey T is coming into her 7th year as a senior craftsman and designer. They are joined by 2 junior craftsmen, both in their second year, to make 6 total.

This year has also brought with it many exciting new designs.  Our custom one of a kind gemstone pendants have been a customer and craftsmen favorite.  Each piece is unique and allows our craftsmen to craft creative pieces that highlight the personalities not only the gemstones, but also the unique talents of each craftsman.

We've also added some wonderful new designs to our regular catalog.  The Mother's Bird necklace and birthstone stacking rings were a great hit last Mother's Day.  Our new Rustic Family Pine Tree has really captured the hearts of many of our customers.  The Robins Heart has inspired several pieces like the Robin's heart wedding set, pendant, and earrings. It's also been used in several of our custom rings.  There were some last minute bracelet editions with the Josephine Knot bangle, trinity knot cuff, and crazy lace agate bracelets.

It's been a wonderful, busy, and exciting year here at Walker Metalsmiths.  We're grateful for all of the support our customers have given us as we grow into our new space. We're humbled by the efforts of our craftsmen and salespeople as they strive to deliver quality jewelry with innovative designs and compassionate customer service. We also offer thanks to our community of Andover, NY for being a wonderful place to live and grow our business.

We hope 2019 is a joyous year for all of you!

What is a Shamrock?

The simplest answer to what is a shamrock is is actually not that simple.  At its essence it is a three-leaved groundcover plant found in Ireland and across the globe.  Are true shamrocks wood sorrel or common clover?  The jury has been out since before St. Patrick first held up the shamrock as an example of the Holy Trinity.
