MacDurnan Key Pattern Pendant
This pendant adapts an angular key pattern from the Book of MacDurnan, a 9th-century pocket gospel created by or for Máel Bright MacDurnan, Abbot of Armagh. Stephen Walker's design translates that medieval geometric artwork into sterling silver, creating a wearable connection to over 1,100 years of Irish Christian artistry.
DESIGN
Key patterns are the angular counterpart to Celtic knotwork's flowing curves. Where knotwork weaves and interlaces, key patterns step and turn at sharp angles, yet both share the same principle of continuous, unbroken movement. The open cutouts between the geometric lines let light pass through the disc, adding depth to the bold design. Available in two pattern variations. 29mm height × 22mm width (1 1/8" × 7/8").
